Kick It Up a Notch at Kalustyan’s

This past weekend I visited Kalustyan’s, a landmark for fine specialty food in NYC.  The store opened at its present location in 1944 selling Indian spices and groceries and has expanded its inventory to include food and ingredients from all over the world.  If you’re not already familiar with this global emporium, imagine three floors chock full of over 4,000 varieties of spices, herbs, sweets, coffee, tea and healthy snacks.  I’ve never seen more dried whole chilies, chili powder, beans or natural herbs in one place.

The staff is friendly and eager to please. This is Shamim ringing up my bill. Kalustyan's is also in the mail order business.
